Dear Parents,

It’s difficult to believe that we have been in the new building for more than one month.  Time continues on even when we want things to slow down.  The first grading period ends on October 25, thus leaving about four weeks for students to make sure they have completed all of their assignments to the best of their ability.  If you have questions regarding your child’s grades, then please contact your child’s teacher via phone or e-mail.

Moving to the block schedule allows for students to have more time to process information and retain information longer.  Students attend three to four classes per day instead of the traditional seven or eight.  The flip side is that if a student misses a block period, then the student will not see the teacher for at least two days.  It is imperative that students regularly attend school.  Students need to be on time to school and on time for each block on A Day and B Day.  Teachers are utilizing Google Classroom as a way for students to interact with the teacher and complete assignments even when absent.

The behaviors and routines displayed during high school very well may continue post high school, whether it be in higher education or the workforce.  Together, we need to insist that students are on time to school and committed to their learning.  Regular school attendance patterns encourage the development of other responsible patterns of behavior.  It would make sense then that students who develop an “on the job” attitude toward school will be more desirable to future employers.

Our goal at Ellet CLC is to prepare students for success in any career or college pathway they choose.  Regardless of whether students enroll, enlist, or enter the employment sector, the skill level demand is the same: strong math, reading and problem-solving skills.  In order to enhance one’s skills, one must be present and put forth effort.

Please call me with any questions.

 Respectfully,

Michelle Marquess-Kearns
