Dear Parents and Guardians,

As part of the 2018-19 educational school year, the State of Ohio mandates all 11th-grade students across the state to take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) on one of three specified dates. Akron Public Schools have chosen to administer the ACT to our students on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. This date will be the last opportunity for our students to take a free ACT provided by the state. Successful scoring on this test will result in our students meeting graduation requirements, enrolling in college-level courses during their senior year (College Credit Plus) and moving one step closer to post-high school planning.

Due to the importance of this test, we are going to great lengths to create a testing environment that is optimal for student success.  Please note that our primary goal for all our 11th-grade students is to complete the ACT in a quiet, distraction-free environment. As a result, 9th, 10th and 12th graders will not report to school on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.  Only juniors and identified students will be permitted to attend school; these students will receive written letters, all-call phone messages, and other reminders during the upcoming weeks leading to the assessment.

College Credit Plus students in grades 9, 10, and 12 must attend college classes.  College Credit Plus students in 11th grade must communicate with their professor(s) that they will be taking the ACT on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.  The district will provide students with a letter to share with their professor(s). ACT guidelines require us to ensure that all testing rooms are free from distractions and variations. This means we will have synchronized start times.  The official ACT will begin no later than 9:00 a.m. Our building will open at 7:40 a.m. to accommodate breakfast with registration beginning at 8:05 a.m.
