
Akron Public Schools to hold intracity
“Body and Brain” Competition during inaugural JROTC Day
Program to receive Proclamation from the City of Akron Mayor’s Office
Akron Public Schools (APS) is having its Inaugural Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Day at Ellet Community Learning Center, Saturday, April 30, 2022.
The day’s activities will include the JROTC Honor Guard, a Pass-in-Review ceremony to recognize the city’s leadership, a proclamation ceremony from the Mayor’s Office declaring the date officially JROTC Day, and a “Body & Brain” Competition among JROTC cadets.
Akron is the only city in Ohio to host all four major military JROTC programs comprising the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. JROTC was originally created as part of the 1916 National Defense Act and currently has more than 3,000 units across the nation and overseas. The purpose of the program is to develop better citizens, cultivate leadership potential, and help students learn to live and work cooperatively with others.
